A Love Letter to Altadena, Written in Scent

Bodi Botanica is a bespoke fragrance studio nestled in the foothills of Altadena. It didn’t begin as a business plan. It began as a feeling. A belief that a person's natural scent is inherently beautiful. That fragrance doesn’t need to cover you, but can move with you, evolve with you, become part of you. And it began here, in Altadena.
This place has a particular kind of magic. Wild at the edges. Quiet in a way that invites you to notice things. The smell of sun-warmed earth. The sweetness of pink pepper trees drifting through the air. Night-blooming florals that linger into morning. It’s a place that comes alive through scent, whether you realize it or not.
When I started creating fragrances, I wasn’t necessarily trying to capture Altadena. I was just living in it. Walking through it. Letting it shape what I was making.
When the Eaton Fire hit us hard, I knew I wanted to capture something about the town's essence through perfumery. There’s a moment, after something like that, where you realize how fragile a place can be. How quickly things you take for granted can disappear. Streets, homes, landscapes, the invisible things too, like the way the air smells at a certain time of day.
But there’s also something else that happens.
You see what holds. You see the people who stay, who rebuild, who take care of each other. You notice what’s still standing. What’s still alive. What still connects you to where you are.
Bodi Botanica took shape in that space. Not just as a creative practice, but as a way of paying attention. Of holding onto the sensory memory of a place that is constantly evolving, but still deeply itself. The Altadena Collection came out of that.
Five fragrances, each rooted in a different facet of this place. Not in a literal way, but in the way scent actually works, through memory, through association, through feeling.
A tree-lined street that smells unexpectedly soft and milky.
A quiet foothill road in the early morning.
The strange, beautiful depth of earth and skin.
The airy spice of pepper trees drifting in the heat.
The lush, intoxicating blooms that only open at night.
These are the things that make Altadena what it is.
And they’re still here.
This collection is for the people who know that. Who have walked these streets, or who understand the value of place, of small businesses rooted in something real.
It’s also for anyone who wants to experience fragrance differently, as something intimate, something alive, something that connects you more deeply to your own body and the world around you.
Bodi Botanica is still small. Still growing. Still shaped by the place it comes from.
But it’s here.
And it smells like Altadena.
